HealthierJC + Gotta Go Gaming

For Gotta Go Gaming, building a Culture of Health involves connecting underserved populations and individuals with resources available within their communities. It seeks to deliver entertainment experiences that provide ample opportunity and space for individuals to collaborate and share meaningful interactions.

Gotta Go Gaming wants to help build a Culture of Health that is committed to equity and inclusion. It realizes that equity can be achieved only when every individual and community have equal access to educational and recreational resources. In awarding the mini-grant, HealthierJC acknowledged the ongoing contributions by Gotta Go Gaming to improve health equity across all Jersey City neighborhoods with diverse racial, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

How was the Mini-Grant Used?

Thanks to the HealthierJC mini-grant, Gotta Go Gaming hosted its Get Balanced: Gaming & Resources Event on August 17, 2023, at Curries Woods 65-67 Ruby Brown Terrace, Jersey City, in Ward A.

This event was attended by 50 minority, low-income Jersey City residents (mainly children). Gotta Go Gaming provided a safe and nurturing environment for young gamers to participate in three gaming tournaments – Street Fighter 6, Mario Kart, and Just Dance. Gotta Go Gaming also collaborated with several local organizations, such as the JC Housing Authority, to provide food and community workshops covering financial literacy & planning, fitness instruction, healthy eating, health screenings, and teen & adolescent advocacy.

By offering a venue with engaging activities for all ages, Gotta Go Gaming encouraged inter-generational interaction and community connections.

Moving forward…

Gotta Go Gaming plans to open a new community center that will provide physical space; e-sports offerings such as personal trainers, nutritional experts, and more tournaments; as well as STEM education. It’s currently exploring acquiring property in Jersey City and working with HealthierJC and the Jersey City Housing Authority to engage, entertain, and support community residents in 2024.
