The Services that we provide are simply to encourage and enhance our youth here in the City of Jersey with our Mayor Steven M. Fulop & our Health & Human Services Director Stacey Flanagan!!! The City of Jersey City Teen Mentoring/Teen Magazine Program gives our youth an opportunity to express their ideas and feelings about their everyday lives in a safe and nurturing environment. We encourage positivity and encourage the young people to seek and inspire good relationships and interactions in their environment. The Teen Magazine Literacy Program was initiated by Pastor John H. McReynolds over 10 years ago; it runs for 8 weeks and we have partnered with the City of Jersey City to expand impact and make a difference. Our program allows our youth to work as a team on their writing and communication skills in a safe environment. We give them a safe haven to produce a Magazine, illustrating how their voices are relevant and can serve as a vehicle for positive change in Jersey City. The work begins with a plain piece of paper and they are encouraged to use that canvas to formulate and compose their stories. Our teens express their views on a variety of topics, such as: bullying, suicide, teen pregnancy, becoming a police officer, a writer – the list goes on and on…..Most important, the program is FREE and accessible to our young residents!!!!! Our City of Jersey City Teen Magazine Program salutes our graduates upon completion of the program at City Hall where they receive citations from the Honorable Steven M. Fulop and the Jersey City Municipal Council. Following the awards ceremony, the graduates and their guests are treated to a lunch sponsored by Applebee’s. Tina calls her effort the Boots on the Ground #PinkBootsInitiative and works to provide clothing, housewares and basic essentials, free of charge. “Unfortunately, I know what it is to be in need. In 2010, I fell short on my luck and was unable to afford the basic life necessities. I needed some clothing and was only able to find a second-hand shop that was charging a few dollars for a shirt. At the time, even a few dollars was hard to scrape together. This situation was a turning point for me and it caused me to think about other families that might be experiencing the same setbacks. Community Treasures was born out of my desire to physically be there with needed supplies for my friends and neighbors in times of crisis.” said, Tina Nalls, Founder of Community Treasures. Community Treasures exists purely on donations and the kindness of the Jersey City community. Founder Tina Nalls is committed to insuring that basic needs like clothing, housewares, shoes and other items are available free of charge for all. Community Treasures’ has become a go-to organization for residents experiencing unexpected loss like a layoff or loss of home due to a fire.
