  • Emergency housing and food for single women and men in need.
  • Services available to the unsheltered homeless include two meals a day, clothing, shower access, and various homeless outreach programs. 
  • Situational assessment and referrals to one or more of the following services:
    • Welfare.
    • SSI (Social Security Income).
    • Unemployment.
    • Job training and job search.
    • Mental health and drug addiction education and treatment programs.

Services Provided: 

  • Recognized as a Coordinated Entry Point for Hudson County, which provides:
    • Extensive one-on-one case management for homeless individuals and families.
    • Needs assessment and program linkage to housing and other supportive services.

  • Coordination of RIST (Residential Intensive Support Team) Program, funded by the NJ Division of Mental Health Services. The program helps adults with mental illness find housing, and supports their efforts to gain and sustain independent living. RIST services include:
    • Establishing wellness and recovery goals.
    • Crafting a personal plan that emphasizes education and developing life skills, such as apartment management, nutrition, budgeting, personal hygiene, housekeeping, and medication management.
    • Enrollment into mental health, substance abuse, and medical programs. 
    • 24/7 access to staff, including a rapid response emergency capability.
    • Guidance for developing relationships with peers, community, and family.
    • Career counseling, and job skills training.

  • Provide shelter to approximately 50 people each night.
  • Everyone is offered 3 meals per day.
  • Shower program
  • Homeless support services such as:
    • Case management.
    • Job and life skills training.
    • Creative arts workshops.
    • Emergency homelessness prevention grants.
    • Counseling 
    • About appointments:

      • Must be at the shelter by 5 pm if in need of a bed to see if there is any available
      • After coming consistently for about a week or so then you can be considered in being a permanent resident.

  • Emergency shelter for homeless families with children (men with children or women with children).
  • Short-term supervised residence for 90-day emergency shelter.
  • Includes breakfast and dinner.
  • shelter support services including housing, education, clothing, and case management.

About services: 

  • Aggressive cleaning protocols have been implemented -shelter facilities are sanitized.
  • 3 times a day
  • Meals are scheduled in shifts to allow more spacing in the dining room.

Changes to Services since COVID-19: 

  • Emergency overnight stays are accommodated using hotel lodging instead of traditional shelter facilities. 
  • Adherence to basic COVID-19 protocols: masks, social distancing, testing, contact tracing, and isolation as appropriate.

  • Mary’s Residence: Provides safe, affordable housing, meals, and communal living services for single working women with limited incomes. (Boarding house for employed women)
  • The Nurturing Place: Early childhood development for homeless and low-income children aged 3 months to 5 years. 
  • Joseph’s Home: Provides homeless families (men with kids and women with kids) with 12 months of supportive, communal living, as well as ongoing social services such as: 
    • Crisis intervention.
    • Family therapy.
    • Health education.
    • Life skills.
    • Family budgeting.
    • Counseling
