Situated on a beautifully landscaped campus in a vibrant urban community, New Jersey City University (NJCU) provides top-quality education to over 8,200 students who reflect the dynamism of the University’s metropolitan Jersey City location.  Whether on the University’s 51.46 campus in Jersey City’s Greenville section or at the NJCU School of Business in the City’s waterfront financial district, NJCU prepares students to be responsible, informed citizens as well aseducated career professionals. The University provides an educational experience that empowers all students to be self-advocates who are aware of the importance of ongoing health care, regular screening, and maintaining healthy lifestyles. NJCU also educates some to be highly-competent professionals who address complex human needs within a multicultural environment that will improve the health of individuals, families, and communities.

NJCU takes a holistic approach to higher education. The University provides a rigorous and practical education that recognizes the link for many between physical well-being, multicultural issues and socio-economic status. Awareness of chronic health issues; understanding of available health care services, including counseling; knowledge of the dangers of addiction to controlled substances, smoking, and alcohol;and, alternately, knowledge of the importance of exercise and healthy diet are equally as important as academic course work. The University combats the financial woes that feed disparity by offering themost affordable tuition among New Jersey public colleges and universities; boasting the lowest student debt among New Jersey public colleges and universities; and achieving a national ranking for improving the upward mobility and economic futures of its students.

At NJCU, high-priority academic areas include: Counselor Education, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, STEM Studies, Psychology, and Nursing. Both NJCU’s “RN to BSN” program and Accelerated Nursing Program prepare highly competent professional nurses to address complex human needs within a multicultural environment that will improve the health of individuals, families, and communities.

NJCU’s Nursing Department faculty is committed to educating students so they are prepared toprovide ethical, holistic, culturally competent, evidence-based care in collaboration with other members of a healthcare team in a variety of health care settings. NJCU nursing students, as members of the community in which they receive their education, are stakeholders in the health and welfare of the community they will serve.

There is no better place to study health science than in a multicultural, urban setting such as NJCU. Today’s health science leaders are the vanguards for eliminating health disparities and creating equitable access to health care. NJCU’s Health Science faculty transforms students’ passion for health sciences into knowledge, experience and a career that changes lives for the better.

NJCU’s Health Sciences faculty is student-centered and committed to preparing the next generation for the complex health issues facing our diverse society today. The Department’s focus is on developing students into critical thinkers, effective communicators and problem solvers who are ready for today’s complex health care world.

Graduates with degrees in Health Sciences can go on to become counselors, public health advocates, researchers, administrators and more. Some work in traditional health care settings like hospitals and health centers, while others choose government and nonprofit agencies, health insurance companies and schools. A health sciences education is an open door on today’s job market for someone who truly wants to make a difference.

Outside the classroom, the Counseling Center offers registered NJCU students free and confidential services, delivered by qualified, experienced professionals. Short-term individual and couples counseling and support groups are available to address students’ personal concerns. The staff is dedicated to helping students enhance their psychological, social, and intellectual development. Whether students are facing challenges in personal relationships, coping with anxiety or depression, concerned about family problems, dealing with losses, confused about their career paths, having academic difficulties, or struggling with identity issues, professionals are available at the Counseling Center to help.
