About the partner

“Family Members as Coaches” is research to learn about how learning coaching skills with a friend or family member might improve self-management of diabetes. New Jersey residents with type 2 diabetes and their family member can choose to participate in group sessions to learn coaching skills or just complete surveys. Group coaching sessions, with a friend or family member, will be for 1.5 hours for 4 weeks. These can be attended via video chat (Zoom). Each participant is compensated $100.

Perspective on Health Equity

It means ensuring that all residents have the skills and tools to be healthy. To us, it means involving family members/friends in helping with the management of type 2 diabetes, most of which occurs at home. Coaching, which involves positive communication strategies, is a skill that can be applied to other conditions and contexts.
