Helping Jersey City Men
The Royal Men Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides mentoring services, community services, health and educational workshops for adult male residents in the Jersey City community. Their mission is to restore leadership qualities in men by promoting honor, integrity, self-esteem and brotherly love.
HealthierJC + The Royal Men Foundation
For the Royal Men Foundation, building a Culture of Health in Jersey City means promoting health and wellbeing through nutrition, exercise and proper rest. They advocate building lifestyles that focus on mental and physical health, and commitment to self-care.
The Royal Men Foundation program aligns with the HealthierJC goal to expand access to health education and address health disparities within the Jersey City community. In awarding the mini-grant, HealthierJC acknowledged the ongoing contribution of the Royal Men Foundation in advancing a progressive urban Culture of Health.
A Community Health Event in the Park
Thanks to the HealthierJC mini-grant, the Royal Men Foundation organized a community health event at Audubon Park in Jersey City. The health priority at this event was to educate the community on the importance of physical activities, like walking and riding a bike. In partnership with BikeJC, HudsonTMA, and HealthierJC, the Royal Men Foundation clarified the health benefits of biking, stressed the importance of bike/pedestrian safety, and provided free bike repairs onsite.
This community health event was attended by 80+ Jersey City residents of all ages in Ward B. The Royal Men Foundation was able to actively engage with attendees about developing healthy lifestyle habits and build 1:1 relationships with community members. They were sincerely appreciative of the support of HealthierJC, who was the sole financial sponsor.
“The Department of Health & Human Services, and HealthierJC assistance was very helpful during this period. I would like to say to every organization to join the Partnership! It was the best decision our organization made to build a healthier Jersey City.” – Duquann Sweeney, Founder Of The Royal Men Foundation
Moving forward…
Moving forward, the Royal Men Foundation seeks to continue building a Culture of Health in Jersey City by organizing neighborhood health events, and distributing information about healthy food choices.
Building on community bike rides that they organize during the spring and summer months, the Royal Men Foundation hopes to host a Bike Tour throughout Jersey City, so stay tuned!
In addition, they invite all men in Jersey City to join for their weekly meetings, every Wednesday from 6pm-8pm at Mary Bethune Center located at 140 MLK Drive, Jersey City, New Jersey, 07305.
