My Skin Color Is Human is an organization founded to provide emergency services in Jersey City. Volunteers provide social services, hygienic products, clothing, transportation,hot and prepackaged meals to the most vulnerable humans in the community. As a 501(C3) non profit we have expanded to providing extra curricular activities to promote mental wellness. These activities reintegrate the most vulnerable back into the community and offer them a moment of happiness.
Perspective on Health Equity
It is life and death for the demographic I work with. Many have mental health issues that they battle with daily and need a chaperone to complete the simplest of tasks. Years of drug use and alcohol abuse left many homeless while still collecting a monthly income. Unable to maintain their mental health several are now seniors withering away in the streets waiting for death. Life for them has solely revolved around their health and trying to help them overcome these obstacles.
