On March 24, 2019, Carolina Cano, a 45-year-old runner was kidnapped, assaulted and murdered in Lincoln Park in Jersey City, NJ. She was a dedicated, loving and sweet woman who was active in her local church and community. We seek to honor Carolina's memory at this 2nd annual event by helping her to finish her run in her absence. In cases of extreme violence and violation, it is critical to restore control to the victim in any way possible so as to help them feel a renewed sense of stability and support. While we cannot bring Carolina back, we can at least help her complete what she set out to do that morning: enjoy a peaceful run in a beautiful park in her community. By coming together in a positive way to honor a neighbor and friend, we can also restore control to the Lincoln Park community. Rather than allowing this senseless crime to dominate the thoughts of those who live, work, run or play on the West Side, we gather to create warmth, togetherness and strength in unity. Throughout the event, volunteers will be giving out teal ribbons in honor of Carolina and Sexual Assault Awareness. In solidarity we ask participants and volunteers to wear white shirts.
